War Effort

I’ve recently been to an exhibition in Ely Cathedral of painted icons by two Ukrainian artists, raising money for the war effort. The images were painted on wooden panels taken from empty ammunition boxes brought back from the front.

The paintings were mostly  of mother and child, a poignant reminder of the devastation  war does to families. The woodgrain running through the panel added to the beauty of the icon.
