Ted Coney: Artist in Residence in Ely’s Courthouse

Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 June
Sessions House, The Old Courthouse
Lynn Road, Ely, CB7 4EG
11am – 4pm / FREE

Local artist, Ted Coney will be working in a pop-up studio in the main courtroom on his latest family painting ‘Who Stole The Toothpaste?’. As well as the current picture in progress, visitors will be able to see all his preliminary canvases and sketches made in the courtroom and cells over the last year. His painting imagines how the family lost a fortune, a hundred years ago. Ted has used the image of Toad to show how greed and pomposity can lead to ruin. It is reputed that E.H. Shepard, (the illustrator of ‘Wind in the Willows’), used Ely’s courtroom as the inspiration for Toad’s downfall.
