LETTER: The bins opposite Ely Cathedral are a real blot!

I fully endorse the sentiments in Mack Mathod’s letter (‘Council vs. Artist’) last week and local advertising, with particular regard to supporting the Babylon Gallery.

The Babylon is one of the jewels in Ely’s crown and has survived in spite of both the district and city councils not properly supporting it. Let us hope that with their renewed interest in tourism, they will start now.

However, I am intrigued to know who this person is, who has the power to remove things, because we certainly need them, but to work on more important projects.

In spite of lots of promises, councillors and clergy have failed to solve the problem of the unsightly bins on Steeple Row, but maybe this enforcer can?

The bins opposite the cathedral are a real blot on our city, and I for one, will be watching to see if someone can make things happen – but in a positive way.

Ted Coney, Ely
