Just A Trace

In 1996 I made a painting entitled ‘No More Twist’ after I saw photographs of Christ’s image on the Turin Shroud.

I was interested in the idea of images of loved ones been portrayed on fabric they had once touched.

Just recently, I ‘ve been re- reading Martin Gayford’s book ‘How Painting Happens’ and was struck by the myth (and painting)  of St Veronica. It was said that Christ’s face appeared  on a cloth on which he wiped his brow on the road to crucifixion.
