Digging deep for art’s sake

Cambridge artist Ted Coney did 80 drawings of the Clerk’s Ecclesiastical Piece, near his home in Stapleford, in preparation for a painting.

And the former head of art and design at Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge, even got Time Team’s Carenza Lewis, of Heydon, to do an archaeological dig on the site.

Mr Coney said: “I wanted to use a strip of land as a symbol of marriage because land often came as part of the deal.”
