Creating An Illusion

For my current painting,  ‘Time Frames’ I’m trying to create the illusion that the complex frame pictured, (based on Van Eyck’s ‘ The Adoration of the Lamb’)  is real. If I can’t pull this off then the whole picture doesn’t work.

As I am nearly at the stage to start work on this, I have just done a quick watercolour sketch of a real frame hanging on our wall to work out the lights and darks. You can see the result on my latest Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky posts.
