Cold Wax

I’m in the middle of experimenting with Cold Wax at the moment with a view to using it in my current painting, ‘Forged In Life’.

The theme of the painting is climate change and what we do as humans to destroy the planet. It ‘s another family piece so I’m concentrating on two brothers – David and me.

The cold wax, which I’ve never used before, thickens the oil paint to give it texture. If you only use tiny amounts of colour then the medium looks transparent. In the two experimental canvases you can see on my latest Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky posts  I’m using it this way to convey the effects of flooding. Machines which can cause damage are worn as symbols on our cloaks and gradually dissolve in the rising tides.
