Chance Encounter
I was saddened to hear that the artist, David Hockney had died last week. We’d been to lots of his exhibitions over the years and accumulated quite a few of his catalogues. However my favourite work was the tiny book of fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm of which Hockney had done the illustrations.
We often went to Salts Mill, Saltire, where Hockney always had work on display. About forty years ago we had just been on a visit and took the children to a park next door afterwards when it started to snow. We sheltered under a bandstand nearby, standing next to an elderly couple. The woman introduced herself as David Hockney’s aunt and I must say she did look very like his mother.
