All Hung Up

For the last two weeks I’ve been doing some good old fashioned observation drawing in pencil. You can see the results on my latest Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky posts.

The drawings are in preparation for my latest painting ‘Forged In Life’ and are based on puppets from my childhood.

They are replicas of characters from TV in the early 1950s – Mr Turnip and his friend, Colonel Beetroot, whom I am using to represent  two brothers in a picture  about climate change.

I wanted them to poise in certain positions and being marionettes, I hung them from an old hat stand. Mr Turnip slipped to the ground and I’ve yet to untangle his strings, but carried on drawing, regardless.
