All aboard as Ted’s work docks in city
Artist Ted Coney’s painting ‘If The Boats Come In’ has gone on display at Yarn On The Square, in Ely.
Although the painting displays toy boats during a race on the boating pond in Sheringham, the work is about family ties and unravelling threads.
Ted, from Ely, had some boats knitted by his sister-in-law to work from and these form part of the display in the windows as well.
Ted said: “I found painting knitting very difficult, so knitting must be even more so!”
The painting, which will be in the market square for two weeks, will the return to Waterside for the reopening of Ted Coney’s Family Portraits on May 11.
This is the sixth year that Ted’s home has been open to the public on Sunday afternoons, where there are eight themed tours about his family paintings to choose from. Booking is essential as there is only room for six visitors on each tour.
