Ted paints a picture of family life through ages

Ely artist Ted Coney is celebrating his 70th birthday with a new retrospective exhibition at the Babylon Gallery.

Launched on Saturday, Ted’s exhibition features some of his most memorable and poignant works on a variety of themes, from birth and death to family traditions and women and secrets.

The exhibition runs at the gallery in Waterside, until April 20.

Ted said: “I think painting gives me a way of controlling my emotions. I never have to think about what I want to paint next – the thing about families is that they are endlessly fascinating.”

From the first painting Life Cycle, painted in 1969, to If The Boats Come In, completed in 2013, the exhibition is a journey through the lives of several generations of the Coney family.

Ted Coney turns 70 this month and will be holding a private view at the gallery on March 29. The Babylon Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from noon-4pm, entry is free. More details on forthcoming shows are available at the Babylon Arts website.
