Madrid Markets

I’ve just been to Madrid for the weekend , visiting my nephew. He took me to this amazing market where you can buy every Nativity figure you can think of, from Herod’ soldiers – to Herod himself.

For years I have built up a modest nativity scene every Christmas but never realised the Spanish went into it , big time.

I used some of my figures in 2019 for my painting ‘The Wasp and the Ring’ with the attacking soldiers as a symbol for danger. If you look closely (its on my latest Facetime, Instagram and Bluesky posts) you can just see them on on the right hand side of the gold ring.
