Lets Mingle

My painting ‘Minglelands’ (2007) was made in response to our daughters wedding. Given that both parties brought their own possessions to the partnership, I decided to explore the concept of exchanging inherited  wealth , for example land.

I focused my research on a patch near where my son-in-law lived which had in past times been exchanged with another strip next to the church. This was then sold to my in laws family to make their garden bigger.

The original  land was called ‘The Clerk’s Ecclesiastical Piece’ and I made drawings of it, a metre at a time over the course of a year. I then made an archaeological dig of a metre square to see under the surface. My idea was to explore my daughter’ intended in as many ways as possible!

You can see my painting and some of my research on my latest Instagram, Bluesky and Facebook posts.
