In Love

I’m re-reading Martin Gayford’s book ‘Constable In Love’ which cleverly weaves together the romantic relationship of Constable and Maria Bicknell with the landscape and his painting.

Much of the landscape (known as Constable Country)  is still there and in 1982 I took my 1931 Morris Minor to explore it and make sketches along the way. Each drawing always included the car.

On my return I made a series of six paintings entitled ‘Golden Jubilee Ride’. The car was 50 years old that year!
