Exhibition in Ely to celebrate success of local artist Ted Coney

The work of local artist Ted Coney is the focus of a new exhibition opening in Ely.

Ted, 69, spent more than 30 years as Head of Art and Design at Hills Road in Cambridge before retiring in 2005.

Since then he has been running popular pop-up galleries from his 300-year-old home in Waterside, Ely.

To celebrate Ted’s success over the years, the city’s Babylon Gallery – located just a stone’s throw from his home – is hosting an exhibition of some of the work he has created over the last four decades.

A spokeswoman for the Babylon Gallery said: “This spring, we are delighted to present a retrospective of Ted’s work divided into four predominant themes: Birth and Death, Family Traditions, Women and Secrets.

“From his first painting, ‘Life Cycle’ (1969) to ‘If The Boats Come In’, completed in 2013, this retrospective is a celebration of family relationships in all their joyful complexity; tender, compassionate and life-affirming.”

The exhibition, entitled ‘Ted Coney – A Retrospective’, opens on Saturday, March 15 and is running until Sunday, April 20.

The gallery is open everyday from 12-4pm and entry is free.
