Enjoy a Sunday tour around Ted Coney’s Family Portraits

A pop-up art gallery in Ely opens its doors for the summer season on Sunday, April 10.

Ted Coney spent more than 30 years as Head of Art and Design at Hills Road in Cambridge before retiring in 2005.

Since then he has been running popular pop-up galleries from his historic home in Waterside, Ely.

This will be the eighth year that Ted has invited people inside his home to view his work, the majority of which is divided into four predominant themes: Birth and Death, Family Traditions, Women and Secrets.

The star painting this year, Bicycle Thieves, is about marriage and changing attitudes to it since the Second World War. Ted actually made drawings of his 1940 bicycle and uses it in a symbolic way in the painting.

The tours will be running every Sunday afternoon through to December – and for private bookings.
