Cool Camels
In 1964 when I was an art student at Bath Academy of Art, Larry Rivers, the American artist, came and gave a lecture about his work. One of the paintings I remember was called ‘Camels’ (see my latest Instagram and Facebook posts) and I saw it again at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge last week.
We thought it pretty cool (this was in the middle of the pop art era) that he took his image from a Camels cigarette packet rather than drawing from the real animal.
