Art teachers at home with own pictures

Two artists are opening their studios this weekend as part of the Festival.

The two, both teachers, paint at home, but in very different styles.

For 20 years Ted Coney’s family has been his inspiration and pictures which record both happy and sad events can be seen in his studio tomorrow and Sunday.

His studio is his living room at 20 Woollards Lane, Great Shelford, where he paints whenever he can find time – he works as an art teacher at Hills Road Sixth Form College.

“My first family painting was of my grandmother and her four sisters at three different stages of their life,” he said.

He has since painted his own wedding, children’s christenings and birthdays.

Even the tragedy of his stillborn child, he recorded. “It helped to do a painting,” he said.
