After Ravilious
We went to see the Tizah Garwood exhibition recently at the Dulwich Picture Gallery. She was the wife of a much better known artist, Eric Ravilious. I was particularly interested because a friend of them both was Helen Binyon, my art tutor from many years ago.
I liked much of Garwood’s paintings and photographed one of them ‘Spanish Lady’ which you can see on my latest Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky posts. She painted it shortly before her death, of a glass ornament which was nearbye. Possibly because she herself was feeling fragile at the time and was bedridden.
Garwood didn’t paint it as a still life object however, but placed it into a fantasy (but carefully observed) landscape.
