A Family Affair

Enjoy a fascinating glimpse into family life courtesy of artist Ted Coney, who opens up his 300-year-old waterside cottage to the public this month. The former art teacher has dedicated the past 50 years to painting images which reflect family life, and form the basis of his exhibition/open studio, entitled Ted Coney’s Family Portraits. Ted takes visitors on a tour of the listed Ely home he shares with wife Hazel, which is decked out with around 50 original oil paintings and fascinating objects – including a 1931 Morris Minor. Each tour begins with a short film to introduce Ted’s ideas and ends in his studio, to view the latest works in progress.

Ted studied Painting and Printmaking at Bath Academy of Arts in the 60s – and went on to become Head of Art and Design at Hills Road Sixth Form College for more than 30 years, and Head of Art at St. Andrew’s College, running the foundation course, for 12 years.

Visit Ted Coney’s Family Portraits at 49, Waterside, Ely, from April 19.
